Christy Leonard Named PEO Scholar
Christy Leonard earned the prestigious PEO Scholarship for the 2021-22 academic year.
Congratulations to Christy Leonard, CCRS Ph.D. candidate, for receiving the prestigious P.E.O. Scholarship Award for the 2021-22 academic year. Christy was chosen from 847 nominees to receive this important recognition. The P.E.O. scholarship is noteworthy for its acknowledgement of academic achievement, career trajectory, and speaks to Christy’s ability to make a significant contribution in her field. P.E.O. is an international organization dedicated to empowering women through education, and is one of the oldest women’s organizations in North America.
Christy’s research uses an existing system of sediment gages on the Green and Yampa Rivers that project sound waves to measure sediment moving into and out of a river reach. She helps managers understand how to use data from these gages to link reservoir releases to changes in endangered fish habitat.
“This award is appreciated, not only for what P.E.O. represents and how they have recognized my work, but because this support will allow me to close an important research gap to help managers make informed decisions about how to improve the health of regulated rivers in the Colorado River watershed.”
