Summer Park Technician Position (1 Position)  

Description: 

The goal of the summer internship is to give an undergraduate student a developmental opportunity to gain experience working in a park unit that directly benefits the student and additionally the National Park Service. This position will provide valuable hands-on experience and exposure to multiple aspects of a National Park Service unit’s operations. In turn, the NPS will benefit by developing and mentoring future National Park stewards who are passionate about the NPS mission and goals.

Major Duties :

  • Resource Interpretation and Communication
  • Support Visitor Center Operations: Greet and orient visitors to recreation and interpretation opportunities within the park and surrounding areas.
  • Tracking visitor use data
  • Park-wide natural resource and/or cultural documentation and monitoring as needed.
  • Exotic weed removal
  • Trail maintenance
  • Project work such as wildlife and ornithology documentation and development of natural resource related interpretive materials for visitor education.
  • Assistance with Locomotive Ranger Programs and special park events.
  • Exposure to administrative business and Fee Revenue Operations

Qualifications:   

  • Must be enrolled as an undergraduate student at USU’s Quinney College of Natural Resources (QCNR).
  • Must have a valid US driver's license and transportation.
  • Able to answer repetitive questions while providing customer service.
  • Level of Physical Demand: The work will be outdoors in warm temperatures as well as indoors in a busy visitor center environment that can require long periods of standing and answering questions. While other aspects can include some physical exertion such as hiking, walking over rough or uneven surfaces; or lifting of moderately heavy items.

Benefits/Description: 

  • Approximate Start/End Date: May 6 / August 17
  • $15 an hour, 40 hours a week for 15 weeks (excluding days off on July 4 & 5 or equivalent). 
  • Housing: Shared Housing is available in a dorm room type setting.
