2021 WATS Induction Course Suggested Gear


You'll want to bring essential outdoor supplies. Minimally:

sunglasses*,

sunscreen*,

hat*,

swimsuit & towel

both warm clothing for cool nights and cool clothing for hot days,

lots of layers (could be 100º F or could be freezing rain),

rain jacket,

closed toe hiking boots or shoes*,

sandals for wading and boating*,

backpack for dayhikes and lunch*,

water-bottles*,

sleeping bag, pillow and sleeping pad/mat (and a tent for Tuesday),

notebook and pen or pencil*

camera*

toiletries and personal items (Tue-Fri)

* Every-day items

 

Bring a minimum of water bottles (1 liter, Nalgene-type) We'll always have extra water jugs on hand in the field for you to top up.

In addition to every day items above, these are things to bear in mind for each day:

Monday - Bring shoes you won't mind getting wet or muddy

Tuesday -  We will supply gear for our surveys, but if you'd prefer, bring your own waders, wading boots or water shoes.

Wednesday - Camping gear for the rest of the week. (sleeping bag, pillow, ground pad, cot/tent, bug spray). 

Thursday and Friday - We'll be rafting for the majority of each day with a short hike on Thursday afternoon. You should wear a swim suit underneath quick-drying layers (not cotton!!!! Polypro instead). If you have your own spray-wear or PFD, feel free to bring it.  We'll supply all the specialized boating gear you'll need (spray jackets, PFDs) if you don't have them.

Food & Beverages

We will supply breakfast for Wednesday - Friday, lunch everyday, and dinner for Monday - Thursday. You should bring some extra money for dinner on Friday night on the way back to Logan or for anything you might want to purchase along the way to and from the Tetons. We will have plenty of snacks and beverages on hand throughout the day to keep you hydrated and energized.
