Preliminary Dissertation Subject: Development and Fitness Consequences of On-shore Behavior for the Southern Beaufort Sea Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) Subpopulation
Research interests: My current research focuses on polar bears of the southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation. Polar bears of this subpopulation have historically spent most of the year on the sea ice. However, recent reports from Alaska indicate that the proportion of bears being observed on-shore during late summer and early fall has increased dramatically. I am particularly interested in how this behavioral strategy of coming on-shore is acquired and its fitness consequences.
